In American culture we use the knowledge for street addresses that EVEN numbers (2,4,6 …) are on one side of the street, and ODD numbers (1,3,5 …) are on the opposite side of the street.

It's really helpful when trying to find someone's house or apartment knowing that the even and odd addresses are on opposite sides of the street.
